Rift Valley Hope

The town of Maai Mahiu, Kenya

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19,20

Rift Valley Hope remains committed and continues with our mission of pushing out the darkness in Maai Mahiu town through our efforts of rescuing, restoring, and giving hope to broken lives as we share the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for your continued partnership through prayers and financial support towards the Kingdom work in this town.

When we started Rift Valley Hope ministry as a feeding program and a Fellowship Church for the community almost 9 years ago, there were 12,500 people living in Maai Mahiu. According to the local County government data collection and census of 2019, the population has increased from 12,500 people to 30,800 people, of which over 18,000 (59% are girls and women) and over 12,500 (41% are boys and men).

The poverty and hopelessness found in this town are a sharp contrast to the beauty of the thriving landscape that surrounds it. So many families faced with different challenges are moving into Maai Mahiu town. A majority of them are relocating as a result of abuse and broken family relationships and are moving with the hope that they can make this place a home and a place to move forward and make a decent living.

Today, the desperate situation in Maai Mahiu town is a result of drugs and alcohol addiction in conjunction with commercial sex work which 54% of the town population is involved in. Lack of education opportunities for many children has resulted in a literacy level of 48%. Additionally, Maai Mahiu’s economic dependency level sits at a staggering rate of 70%. Sadly, over half of the individuals from these statistics are children and young adults, with no education who are doing whatever it takes to survive.

In the meantime, the Maai Mahiu town population is growing every day, along with the rates of poverty, theft, and single parenthood. These circumstances result in rising instances of domestic violence, divorce, unemployment, and devastating neglect of spiritual matters, and an increase in false doctrines both in churches and community. Maai Mahiu town has become a City in the Great Rift Valley, where not only all eyes of the people in Kenya and the world are upon it, but also a place full of uncertainty, insecurity, and desperately in need of God, his redemption, and deliverance of his people from their bondage of sin.

Rift Valley Hope's prayer and hope in the coming months and years ahead are that the Lord will use men and women who have found hope and put their faith in Jesus Christ, their lives have been changed and discipled through our ministry and church programs to continue being a beacon of Hope and the Light of the world in this town. Would you pray with us and for more men, women and children in Maai Mahiu town to know Jesus Christ? I would also urge you to financially support our ministry efforts in this work of God. Your prayers and contributions are integral to our work as we remain committed to our vision: Growing and equipping disciples of Jesus Christ through the power and Love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you!
