Our Story

Maai Mahiu, Kenya

Background

Rift Valley Hope serves the people of Maai Mahiu town and the surrounding community. Maai Mahiu is one of the truck stop towns in the beautiful Rift Valley Hope of Kenya. The poverty and hopelessness found in the town are a sharp contrast to the beauty of the thriving landscape that surrounds it. Maai Mahiu is located along the trans-African highway that connects Mombasa, one of the largest seaports of Africa, to other in-land countries of the continent. The highway stretches all the way to West Africa and the Northern side of Egypt. It is known as the "HIV Highway " traveling through the "AIDS Belt" of Africa. This truck stop environment is a hotbed for drugs and prostitution, devastating the lives of the most vulnerable: women and children. It is estimated that there are about 10,000 residents of Maai Mahiu, many of whom are single mothers, children, and youths.

All you need to do is walk in the town of Maai Mahiu one evening and you will understand why the town desperately needs the heart healing power of God. People are searching for a major rescue from the bondage of sin, a hand that could hold them and help them up, bringing into light the reason God created them in the first place.

Rift Valley Hope has positioned itself with a mission of pushing out the darkness in this town by rescuing, restoring, and giving hope to broken lives through the power and love of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
