Educational Empowerment

“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”

2 Timothy 3:16,17

According to the Kenyan Census of 2019, of the 16,624 youths in Maai Mahiu town 70% are economically dependent, 54% are involved in drug use and prostitution, and 52% are considered below the level of literacy.

Studies with this same census showed a relationship between single parenthood and poverty, (malnutrition, domestic violence, unemployment, lack of proper education, and ignorance of spiritual matters, etc.) and drugs abuse, prostitution, and criminal activities.

It is our goal to be the hands and feet of the body of Christ as the Lord restores hope in the midst of brokenness in Mai Mahiu town. At Rift Valley Hope we are committed to not only sharing the love of God and the truth of Jesus Christ with the youth of Maai Mahiu but also the truth that the Lord has a present and future plan for their lives. We serve a God who is compassionate and kind to provide for all our basic needs including food and education. It is this truth that motivates us to nurture and disciple them as the Lord changes their lives in his grace and mercy. We are committed to supporting, mentoring, and enabling them to establish their careers in ways that will serve the Kingdom of God. In this, we look forward to seeing them thrive in their educational development as they grow towards a better and more stable future of economic independence.

For the last 9 years, RVH has had the privilege of supporting the education of over 80 students, in Maai Mahiu Kenya. By God’s grace and provision, through many supporters like you, many of these students have gone to graduate and start families and careers both in Maai Mahiu and beyond.

This year we have three girls who will be entering high school for their first term on July 3rd. We also have 1 young man who will be starting College!

Education is helping change the lives of our youth, equipping and preparing them for ministry service in different capacities throughout RVH, other church ministries, their community, and many industries of our country. This educational empowerment is also resulting in economic empowerment for these children and their families as their future grows brighter by the day.

Looking back into my own story, I am also proof of the incredible impact of educational empowerment. In 1978, a schoolteacher in my village invited me to church, mentored and discipled me to become a Christian leader. I am a product of the vocational training trade sponsored by World Vision International, and was able to attend and graduate from a Bible College in which supported missionaries were teaching and was sponsored by a bible study group of Christians in a church in California who believed in my calling to serve in ministry.

This is the change you can join to help make for these children and youths by supporting their education.
